Davis, White attract Canton crowd eager to see gold medalists
Olympic gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White were once again lauded by the Canton community Sunday.
At The Village Theater, fans and city officials came together for a celebration honoring the Winter Olympics ice dancing champions. .
They were presented with flowers and resolutions by Canton and Wayne County. Davis was presented with a bracelet and White with a watch from Showroom of Elegance Fine Jewelry. They were presented with one more special piece of jewelry — their U.S. Olympic team rings.
“They are gold to match the gold medals,” said Phil LaJoy, Canton supervisor.
Before the celebration, Davis and White sat down for a press conference and talked about their upcoming appearance on “Dancing with the Stars,” and how it differs from training for the Olympics.
“We put so much pressure on ourselves every day in training to really squeeze the most out of everything,” White said. “It is just nerve-racking going into the Olympics. It is your moment, you want to make the most of it. You don’t have another shot. This is a much more lighthearted approach and we are looking forward to having fun. It is an amazing opportunity to learn and grow.”
During their question-and-answer segment, Davis said the pair will appear on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday.
The skaters were joined by their parents —Charlie White Sr. and Jacqui White; Paul and Cheryl Davis — and their coach Marina Zoueva.
At the end of the program, a confetti bomb was set off.
