Meryl Davis and Charlie White have been on a whirlwind media tour since they became the first American ice dance team to win an Olympic gold medal and one of their next stops is not too far from where they have spent day after day training for that win.
Canton Township is holding a community event to honor Davis and White for their gold medal accomplishment.
Due to demand from the community, there will be two rallies Sunday, March 9 at The Village Theater in Canton. The event is free, but people must have tickets to attend.
Local 4's Steve Garagiola will emcee the event that will include a question and answer session. Davis and White will share with the audience their Olympic journey.
The first rally is from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both presentations will offer the same content.
Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the event. Due to timing constraints, autographs and photo opportunities will not be available.
Tickets will be available starting at 6 p.m. Thursday March 6 the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI, 48188. They will be available on a first come, first serve basis and are limited to four tickets per adult. Identification is required. Every person, regardless of age, must have a ticket to attend
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road in Canton.
Davis and White train at the Arctic Edge of Canton under coach Marina Zoeuva.
During their 17 year ice dance career, Davis and White became the first American ice dance team to win a World Championship, then did it again in 2013. They are also six-time U.S. National Champions, something no ice dance team has ever done before. They won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada in 2010 and of course, just add the Olympic gold medal to their trophy case.
Davis and White have decided against competing in the World Championships later this month in Japan. They have not said whether they are done competing altogether. The two will do Stars on Ice which will be at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on April 27.
